Exercise Handshake

Exercise Handshake is held at 7:00pm the last Tuesday of each month. The purpose of these ongoing monthly exercises is to have radio operators familiarize themselves with the radio and telecommunication equipment they have available. This is designed for groups or departments either responsible for emergency communications or groups such as Amateur radio operators designated to assist with communications for EMO.

Net control is typically Cumberland Regional EMO. They will contact Shubie Radio on the NS Provincial TMR Network, (SHUBIE),  and request a  Mutual Aid Talk Group for Exercise Handshake. If a talk group is available they will be instructed to go to that talk group and report back to Shubie when finished. Should an emergency occur and the Talk Group is required, we will be directed off the Talk Group. Should any agency like to take NET CONTROL, please let me know and I will set it up for you or your agency for future sessions.

Cumberland REMO will request that Shubie Radio contact New Brunswick PMCC in Fredericton, EMO PEI in Charlottetown, Mr. Scott Hawks and Mr. Al Cyples and have them go to the designated Mutual Aid Talk Group.

All TMR users wanting to check in must first contact Shubie Radio by their proper method and ask for the Mutual Aid Talk Group being used. Once Shubie has told them the number of the M.A.T.G. they must find it on their radio and check in. Cumberland REMO will document all traffic and keep a list of the agencies that have checked in.

Once your agency has completed this task, another member of your group may want to check back in. Without bothering Shubie again, please have the operator go through the drill and check in as many times as you like?

Net control will be asking if there is any other telecommunications equipment in your department that you would like to try out.
