The Pictou County Amateur Radio club (PCARC) is
celebrating its 60th year of
operation in 2008. The Club was formed on November 4th, 1948 by
12 local amateur
radio “hams” and we are pleased to be able to have two of the original
Club founders
as active members today.
The Club was organized to provide a forum for local Amateurs to share
technical and
operational information about wireless communications. The evolution of Radio
Communications also enabled the Club, and its members, to provide emergency
communications as a public service when required.
As radio technology evolved, the ability to communicate in a wireless
fashion improved
and today we enjoy many types of analogue and digital methodologies through
Ham
Radio. Through our active membership, we can provide reliable communications
under
emergency conditions from the Strait of Canso west to Tatamagouche and south
to
Truro. Through communications links in Truro, communications with the rest
of Novas
Scotia is enabled. This service is provided via FM,
analogue and digital modes.
The Club meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month (except July and
August) at the
Stellarite Senior’s Centre on Park Street in Stellarton.
Holding an Amateur Radio License is NOT a requirement to attend our
meetings,
everyone is welcome.
The Club (known as PCARC) has a complete Radio Station set up in the
Stellarite
Centre that is available for use by any licensed Amateur as well as for
Emergency
Communications in time of need.
More information about PCARC is available on our website at:

I have noticed that many NS clubs do not have websites to advertise their
club
and its activities. I have 50 Gigabytes of space rented on the internet. As I
only
use a small portion of that space I would like to offer space to any club that
would like to have a website. There will be no cost to the clubs. At this time
I will need the info sent to me for uploading. But I will work towards setting
it up so folks can upload to their assigned space on their own. I am also
willing to help with the creation/setup of a site if your club does not have
anyone
that can do it for you. If your club would like to take advantage of this offer
contact me.
